1. Parabens
What exactly are parabens? Parabens are a type of preservative, used to extend shelf life of a cosmetic product. Parabens are also used to prevent the growth of bacteria and mold. Why are parabens dangerous? Paraben use has been linked to reproductive problems and breast cancer. They’re thought to mimic estrogen, and too much estrogen may be responsible for breast cell division and hormone growth. We don’t know too much about the links, but it’s best to stay away from products containing parabens.
2. Sodium Lauryl Sulfate
Sodium Lauryl Sulfate has been linked to respiratory irritation, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.
3. Petroleum Distillates
Petroleum distillates is obtained from petroleum and is a mixture of volatile hydrocarbons. Why is it considered dangerous? It is a possible carcinogen.
