More and more women are ditching the tanning beds and switching to a quality self tanner for that bronzed goddess look. But can you achieve a beautiful natural tan without those harmful UV rays? If you follow these 5 tips, you’ll never buy a tanning package again!
Rule #1. Exfoliate!
Don’t skip this first and crucial step! Use an exfoliating product with a washcloth all over your face and body prior to self tan application. Exfoliating your skin first will remove dead skin cells that the self tanner clings to, and will prevent streaking and spotting. Basically, the idea is creating a smooth, even surface for the self tanner to glide onto.
Rule #2 Shaving, Manicure, and Hair Dye Come First.
If you have a salon appointment scheduled for a hair refresh, manicure, or wax, do that first. All these products can remove your self tanner!
Rule #3. Moisturize.
After you exfoliate your body, remember to moisturize your elbows, knees, and cuticles. This prevents the soaking up of excess self tanner in dry spots. This step is extremely important.
Rule #4 Choose a self tanner and apply.
Listen, it’s tempting to choose a gorgeous dark shade because that’s the color you desire. But trust me, you’ll want to choose something that matches your skin tone. If you have fair skin, go with a light – medium shade, and if you have darker skin try an olive tone. There are many different types to choose from, and this will just be based on your preference. Mousses are easy to apply for first timers, and sprays can cover hard to reach areas.
Rule #5 Clean up!
Now that that application is complete, chill out and let it dry completely for at least four hours, or overnight before showering. But make sure to wash your hands thoroughly after application to avoid staining your hands orange! Enjoy your bronze tan!
